Bargainatt was formed in 2016 in Montpellier, born out of a friendship between four musicians.
The band took its first steps at markets in the Hérault and Gard regions in early spring. Wearing a hat and brimming with enthusiasm, it was at these markets that their first rehearsals took place. From this experience came the band’s name, derived from the English words “Bargain” and “Hat”.
At the “Bal des Pas Amoureux” in Avignon in May 2016, their encounter with the world of balfolk spared joy and inspiration. Since then , their desire to play has never left
In the summer of 2016, the open stage at the Le Grand Bal de l’Europe festival allowed them to make a name for themselves with a wide audience. This experience marked a turning point: the very next year, Bargainatt embarked on their first tour across Europe.
Over time, the group has built up a repertoire of original compositions, inspired by traditional melodies and rooted in dances from all over France. They pay particular attention to the subtleties and styles specific to each. The instrumental pieces are also enriched by songs written and performed by Youmi, bringing a new dimension to the ensemble.
In its ten years of existence, Bargainatt has played at over 250 dance events, including festivals, venues, barns and village squares, all across France and Europe. The group has also recorded four studio albums.
Guided as always by a sense of camaraderie, a love of music, the joy of dance and the pleasure of connecting with people, Bargainatt continues to bring to life a style of music by blending traditional roots with vibrant creativity.
